Intended Audience
This journal will seek to appeal to and draw from personnel from general hospitals along with those whose specialty is in-patient and/or outpatient treatment centers for emotional problems, residential treatment centers, students in traditional academic settings, as well as those in psychoanalytic institutes. They will be the ones to carry the torch illuminating the way for future psychoanalytic models to inevitably be developed as psychoanalysis continues to evolve as it always has.
A rarely thought of, but significant prêt-à-porter set of enthusiasts heralds from the ranks of Forensic psychology and psychiatry, as well as from trial attorneys, all of whom have a vested interest in obtaining evidence that is research-backed concerning their client’s emotional
state and/or his/her motives. There are many audiences that JASPER would appeal to that have not been approached in the past simply because they did not fit into the so-called traditional readership or so-called typical consumers of psychoanalytic formulations. Scholars, as well as students whose course of studies involve literature, philosophy, or history—all of whom have been known to delve into, invest, or derive psychoanalytic themes, interpretation, in or from their work would find satisfaction in a number of sections in this journal that are designed to appeal to them.
This journal will be designed to capture the curiosity, imagination, and desire for a solid research base upon which to advance our knowledge of what is valid and what works in psychoanalysis, to further psychoanalytic ideas, and continue to improve our procedures or develop new ones—all this so that our future psychoanalytic formulations can continue to be built on the bedrock of scientific research and grounded on empirical experience, rather than “wild analysis.”
The global audience for JASPER is reflected by the makeup of the Editorial Board. It will cover the United States, from coast to coast, north
to south, and the midsections, as well as Canada. In addition, different parts of Europe are represented, such as France, Germany, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom, and Australia. A concerted effort is currently under way, and will continue, to foster contacts and intellectual interaction with Asia, particularly (although not exclusively) with China—in view of the recent upsurge of interest that has been shown in psychoanalysis.
