About Us
...Only the Educated are Free--Epictetus
Many people, including some psychoanalysts, are unaware of how much good research there is in our field. One of the reasons for this is that psychoanalytic studies have been spread out in a wide array of journals, none of which specialized in psychoanalytic research per se.
The Journal for the Advancement of Scientific Psychoanalytic Empirical Research (J.A.S.P.E.R.) needed to be created so that a central forum exists for psychoanalytic research---consisting of carefully and methodically gathered empirical observations, descriptions, and assessments of psychoanalytic ideas, and concrete practices---which can be found more easily as a result of being housed under one roof, in one home, which we call J.A.S.P.E.R., and so that the notion that "psychoanalysis cannot be put to the test" (the so-called Popper falsifiability critique) can be scientifically put to rest. Readers need to be informed of the fact that there is no dearth of solid, methodologically sound psychoanalytic studies dating back to Freud, himself, followed by Jung, Rene Spitz, Anna Freud, Margaret Mahler, Anni Bergman, right up to Sylvia Brody, Bertram Karon, Henri Parens, Peter Fonagy, Beatrice Beebe, Horst Kächele, and so many others. This is why creating J.A.S.P.E.R. remains necessary now more than ever.
Each individual may subscribe directly to J.A.S.P.E.R. at the rate of $110 per year. In our first year, we published two issues. Thereafter, we hope to gradually increase the number of issues, eventually reaching four per year. As part of the next order of business, we are now ready to announce A Call For Papers and A Call For Subscriptions to J.A.S.P.E.R.
